Online tools for activating students

As a teacher at UCPH these tools are available to use in your teaching.

The FAQ below is about how to use these tools. If you do not find the answer you are looking for, please contact us at itlc@science.ku.dk

If you have trouble with the installation or logging in you can get technical support via the service portal

Padlet

Padlet is an online pinboard you can use for collecting inputs from students, either in written form or as images, weblinks, etc.

Order a Padlet licence via the Service Portal:

Click ‘Create ticket’ , select ‘Computer and Software’, go to ‘Software Licenses’ and then select ”Padlet License (Annual)”.

You will now receive an email with a link to your new Padlet account.

SendSteps (student response system)

Sendsteps is a student-response-system which can be used to engage your students, increase their learning opportunities and get instant feedback on your teaching.

Read about how to ‘Engage your students with student response system’ in this article. Here you can read about the advantages of using student response systems, didactic tips and the software available at UCPH.

With Sendsteps you can add questions to your PowerPoint presentation. The students will see a short link on the screen which lead them to the question. You can then see the students’ answers in real time directly in your PowerPoint presentation, in your browser or on your mobile/tablet.

If you would like to have access to SendSteps, you need to write an email to itlc@science.ku.dk.

Your email must contains:
1. your name
2. your department
3. the course for which you want to use SendSteps.

Once we have received your email, we will set you up, and you will receive an email with a link to download SendSteps and a link to a guide.

We do not have licences for other systems here at SCIENCE. But a free version of Socrative is available. Here you can see a video about how Socrative can be used

OneDrive

Login to: https://alumni-my.sharepoint.com/

  • Create a folder for the course
  • Share the folder: Click on the share icon or the three dots, then “Copy link." It will either say “People you specify...” or "People with existing...". Change it to “People in University of Copenhagen with the link” and check “Allow editing” (if they shall be able to upload files). When you click “Apply” the link will be created which you can then copy and share within the Absalon course.
  • When the students click the link they will have to login in order to access the folder. When they are asked to login they should use their alumni-email so the Microsoft server identifies them as part of UCPH (if this does not happen automatically). This will take them to the classic red UCPH login page where they login with their username (abc123) and their password.

Activities where students create something that a group of students or everybody in the course should be able to access, can benefit from a shared Onedrive folder - for instance:

  • Student presentations
  • Datasets created by the students
  • ...

Yes, at https://alumni-my.sharepoint.com/ the students can use OneDrive, Office 365 and other applications

Teams

As a teacher you can organise groups in channels and follow their chat and see when they start video meetings, so you can keep an overview, answer questions and guide the students when you or they need you to.

In this short video, Peter Waaben Thulstrup tell his experience with Teams during the Covid19 lockdown:

Follow this guide on KUnet to install Teams on a Windows or Mac computer. In the same guide, you can also get help to set up a meeting in Teams and download UCPH backgrounds you can use.

Do you wish other tools?

Please write us an email - itlc@science.ku.dk - then we will look into the software and investigate if it could be part of the UCPH toolbox
