About IT Learning Center

IT Learning Center (ITLC) is located under the Management Secretariat in the SCIENCE Study Administration.

The center was established in 1999 and got its current form and name in 2005. Then as today, the center's most important task is to advise and guide teachers at SCIENCE in the pedagogical and technical use of IT didactic tools in teaching. ITLC works on the basis of modern learning theory and the latest knowledge in IT and learning technologies.

Close to practice
ITLC is characterized by its proximity to teachers and a collaborative approach to finding and implementing practical solutions. Our organization, in partnership with the departments at SCIENCE, enables us to monitor local teaching and respond to emerging needs. This is achieved through our strong relationships with VILUs, course coordinators, departmental staff, and dedicated teachers who share their difficulties and successes.

Overview and inspiration for self-help
At SCIENCE, teachers often prefer hands-on experimentation, making it one of our key responsibilities to provide them with a comprehensive overview of available technical and pedagogical options, their pros and cons, and any necessary requirements. Along with expertise in IT educational tools and creating instructional materials, we also play a critical role in gathering and sharing inspiring teaching cases and methods among our teachers at SCIENCE.

Development of competences
ITLC places a strong emphasis on competence building for both the general teaching community and those specifically interested in IT pedagogy. Our teaching and support are primarily delivered through webinars, hands-on workshops, and peer training. These various formats allow us to address and cater to the unique needs and requirements of our teachers and departments.

Strategic guidance
As part of the SCIENCE Study Administration and Faculty Service, ITLC also serves as an advisor during digitization changes or IT integration initiatives in education. Our collaborative work with teachers and VILUs allows us to provide a practical perspective on initiatives, considering the potential consequences and impacts on teaching and teachers at SCIENCE.

Development and coordination across the university
ITLC also participates in strategy projects and coordinating networks across the University of Copenhagen, e.g. KOOL (Coordination Forum for learning units), the OBL-network (between the faculties' learning units), the 2023 project on digitization of teaching, principles for use of Absalon and Absalon knowledge network. Here, we contribute with our perspectives to support UCPH's activities in the IT didactic area.
