Absalon video function (Kaltura)

The University of Copenhagen has a media server called Kaltura, you can use for teaching purposes. You can get acces both through Absalon and the Open Educational Resources, oer.ku.dk.

You will find a collection of guides to Kaltura in Absalon here: https://obl.ku.dk/ku-absalon/using-kaltura-media-in-absalon/

My Media

Kaltura is the media server solution at UCPH. It is the service behind My Media and Media Gallery in Absalon. Here you can upload images, videos etc. and share them with your students.

The website oer.ku.dk is the open access section of Kaltura, which also includes "My Media" - which is identical to what you can find on Absalon. The only difference being that certain features, such as automatic scripting and direct links to published videos, are not present on Absalon. Madia published on Absalon are not published on OER and vice versa, but it is now possible to unpublish videos on both sites concurrently.

My Media contains your own self-produced and uploaded media material (video, audio etc.). It follows you around Absalon, regardless of which course room you are in. This is like your personal repository of self-produced teaching material.<span class="EOP SCXW253117367 BCX9" data-ccp-props="{" 201341983="" :0="" 335559740="" :259="">

Media Gallery

Media Gallery is the shared media repository of the individual course room. This may comprise media material from several different affiliated teachers or media material from the students doing the course. By default the teachers need to approve the content uploaded by students.<span class="EOP SCXW70592011 BCX9" data-ccp-props="{" 201341983="" :0="" 335559740="" :259="">

Unfortunately, you cannot copy/import a Media Gallery from another course.

You can find older recordings made by you in My Media. From here, you must post them in the Media Gallery for the course. By embedding media om eg. a page, it is possible to import/copy the centent for other courses.

Kaltura and Kaltura Capture

Kaltura has an app for screencasts called Kaltura Captura which can be used for quick and simple capture.

You can download it on Absalon and install it. The capture will be uploaded to the Kaltura Video Platform, where you will find it in My media. You can also save it locally on your computer and upload it later through the app.<span data-ccp-props="{" 201341983="" :0="" 335559740="" :259=""> <span data-ccp-props="{" 201341983="" :0="" 335559740="" :259="">

Read in this guide how to record using Kaltura Capture.  <span data-ccp-props="{" 201341983="" :0="" 335559740="" :259="">
